The UAW News is proud to announce that Tennessee State Governor Phil Bredesen has appointed UAW Local 1853 Member and Tennessee State CAP
Chairman, Guy Z. Derryberry to a second State position. In a letter
to Derryberry from Bredesen, dated October 22nd, the Governor stated:
"Today it is my distinct pleasure to confirm your appointment to
the Workforce Development Board serving as a representative
of labor organizations. In the thorough, aggressive search for candidates,
your individual characteristics and professional qualifications were
exceptional among the number of nominees who expressed interest. This
appointment is effective immediate and runs through 6/30/2006."
Later in his letter to Derryberry, Governor Bredesen
went on to state: "Furthermore, I have great confidence in your
abilities and the contribution you will make to our cause. I thoroughly
look forward to working with you."
Brother Derryberry's position on the State Workforce
Development Board will have the primary responsibility to advise the
Governor on all matters of Workforce development strategy for the State
of Tennessee.
The most important function of the Board focuses on
meeting the needs of business for skilled workers and the training,
education and employment needs of individuals.

appointment. His selection to this position stands as a source of pride
for all UAW Members throughout our Local and Region 8.
