UAW Region 8 Website Takes Honors at the 2011 LUPA Awards
During the 2011 Local Union Press Association (LUPA) Conference at the Walter and May Reuther Family Education Center , the 2011 LUPA Awards were presented. The UAW Region 8 Website took four awards for communication excellence. These include:
Best Website
Honorable Mention: Region 8
Communicator: John Davis
Judge’s Comments- Region 8‘s site is a standout. Can‘t find much that is missing from this site. The site is updated often with useful information.
Best Original News Article or Editorial
Second Place – UAW Region 8
Communicator: John Davis
Judge’s Comments- John Davis chooses Labor Day as a fitting occasion to illustrate why the Glenn Becks and Rush Limbaughs of the world have a vision of ―retaking our country‖ when they really mean to take it back for multi-millionaires like themselves. Davis mixes good portions of factual research and illustrative analogies in a satisfying article for working people on their day.
Best Use of Original Photos or Graphics
Second Place: Region 8
Communicator: John Davis
Judge’s Comments- Region 8 posted a fine collection of photos from the 2010 UAW Constitutional Convention. Several of the photos were of professional quality and are a good compliment to the region‘s news coverage of the event.
Best Political Coverage
Second Place: Region 8
Communicator: John Davis
Judge’s Comments- John Davis remains one of the best commentators on political issues in LUPA. His article on how the Supreme Court‘s Citizens United decision empowered anti-worker forces like the Koch Brothers (Koch Industries) to create the Tea Party and affect the 2010 election is incisive and important. It should have been required reading for all workers prior to Election Day.
Also from Region 8 UAW Local 2195’s website (also maintained by Region 8 Webmaster John Davis) took First Place for Best News Article and Third Place for Best Political Coverage.
Davis also serves on the LUPA Advisory Council for Region 8 was reelected to serve a second term as Chair of the LUPA Advisory Council. |
