UAW Local 967 Steps Up to Support Members Following L3Harris Layoffs in Greenville TX
Following recent layoffs at L3Harris in Greenville, UAW Local 967 moved quickly to help affected members navigate the difficult transition and connect them with new employment opportunities and community resources.
The Local organized a hiring and resource event on Wednesday, September 2, at the UAW Local 967 union hall in Greenville. Bringing together employers, workforce professionals and community organizations so laid-off members could receive assistance and make direct connections with potential employers.
For Local 967, the effort was about more than hosting a hiring event. It was about making sure members knew their union continued to stand with them even after a layoff.
The affected workforce includes highly skilled electricians, machinists, aircraft mechanics, and other experienced workers who have spent years developing valuable skills. Local 967 focused its efforts on connecting those members with employers who could put that experience to work while helping members understand the resources available to them during the transition.
Professionals from the Texas Workforce Commission and Workforce Solutions provided guidance and career-transition assistance, while local employers and organizations came to the union hall to meet with affected workers and discuss employment opportunities.

The response demonstrated what can happen when a local union and its community come together during a difficult time. While Greenville continues to grow, the support shown for Local 967 members reflected the hometown spirit of neighbors, businesses and organizations stepping forward to help one another.
President Robert Gamboa expressed his appreciation to everyone who participated, but especially to the Local 967 members facing the uncertainty that comes with a layoff. “Our members are highly skilled men and women who have a great deal to offer an employer and this community,” Gamboa said. “Our responsibility as a union is to advocate for and stand with our members, especially during difficult times. I’m grateful to everyone in Greenville who came together to help us provide these opportunities and resources.”
