Labor is not fighting for a larger slice of the national pie. Labor is fighting for a larger pie. -Walter Reuther
Today members of UAW Local 862 had the honor of attending the Labor Lobby Day in Frankfort and met with members of the House and the Senate. We discussed labor issues HB 404 and SB 163. HB 404 would be to keep employers, with 75 or more employees, from being able to fire, demote or discipline an employee who is a candidate, member-elect, or member of the General Assembly or legislative body of certain local governments. SB 163 is the unemployment work search bill. We all know how important this bill is to our local with LAP being down for the retool. Other issues that were brought to attention was the use of AI and its negative impact in the mental health system and education. Together we were able to build strong relationships with our representatives in Frankfort. We want to give a HUGE shout out to our CAL chairs, Bryan Kessinger and Gabe Witt, for turning the CAL Committee around and for being great leaders! Thank you for all you do for the membership! |
