Vonda McDaniel Central Labor Council of Nashville and Middle Tennessee and AFL-CIO Vice President Passes

It took me a while to write this tribute because it’s difficult to find the right words for someone whose impact was so profound. Before anything else, I want to thank my UAW Region 8 leadership and my UAW Local 1853 leadership for giving me the opportunity to be mentored by such an extraordinary labor leader. Had it not been for those opportunities, I may never have had the privilege of working alongside Vonda or learning from one of the very best.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Vonda McDaniel…a fearless leader, tireless advocate, and a true champion for working people. I had the distinct honor and privilege of working alongside Vonda during two election cycles. The opportunity to glean such an enormous amount of wisdom from someone who led with courage, conviction, and compassion was truly priceless. Vonda never hesitated to speak truth to power or stand in the gap for those whose voices were too often overlooked. Her leadership extended far beyond the labor movement.

She inspired everyone who had the opportunity to know her through her unwavering commitment to justice, equity, and service. Her mentorship, encouragement, and example have left a lasting mark on my own journey, and I know I am only one of many who have benefited from her guidance. I have immense gratitude for the battles she fought, the doors she opened, and the legacy she leaves behind. Her life’s work will continue to inspire generations of labor leaders, community advocates, and all who believe in the dignity of working people. Rest in Power Vonda.

You have earned your rest, and your impact will never be forgotten. Sending my heartfelt prayers and deepest condolences to her parents, family, friends, union family, and everyone whose life she touched.

Yours In Solidarity, Tamera Sangster UAW Local 1853 CAP Chairperson
