Director Smith’s Mother Shelby Piper Passes

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shelby J. Hinchee Piper, mother of UAW Region 8 Director Tim Smith. Please keep Director Smith and family in your thoughts and prayers.

Shelby J. Hinchee Piper age 84 of Russellville, Kentucky died Tuesday June 23rd, 2026 at The Hospice House in Bowling Green. She was born on May 22nd, 1942 to the late Orville Hinchee and Ruby Mae Page Hinchee in Russellville, Kentucky. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Crittenden Drive Church of Christ. She is preceded in death by her husband Henry Beverly Piper. She is survived by: one son, Timmy Smith of Bowling Green KY, daughter Kelley Steenbergen of Russellville KY and daughter Shelly Dillard and husband Bob of Bowling Green KY. One sister Alceon Shoemake and husband Charlie of Russellville KY.  She is survived by six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Shelby J. Hinchee Piper will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Friday June 26th, 2026 at Summers and Son Funeral Home with Bro. Scott Harp officiating with burial to follow in Russellville Memorial Gardens. Visitation at the funeral home will be held from 10:00 AM until the service hour of 1:00 PM. Summers and Son Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Kentucky. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Pallbearers include, Zach Smith, Bobby Dillard, Aaron Westbrook, Will Maguire, Riley Lawson and Tyler Ezell.
