Voting At Volkswagen Ends Today
Workers at the Volkswagen Plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee will complete voting in the election for union representation today. This vote is the next step in a multiyear campaign by the employees here to gain the right to bargaining collectively. Assistant Director George Palmer and myself are here in Chattanooga to be with the workers as the results are tabulated.
Workers have a lawful right to bargaining collectively, but must overcome misinformation campaigns from politicians and outside pressure from business groups to deny them those rights. It is only by standing together can workers take on the corporations with their antiworker lawyers. The UAW’s anthem “Solidarity Forever” states “When the union’s inspiration through the workers’ blood shall run, There can be no power greater anywhere beneath the sun;”. The collective power of America’s workers has built the middle class in this country.
The UAW will continue to stand with the workers here at Volkswagen and everywhere else, joining them in the fight for justice and fairness in the workplace.
