On Sunday the National CAP Conference began in Washington D.C. Over 1000 of our members met to discuss the issues facing working families. One issue that was brought to the forefront was the PRO Act, H.R. 2474. This bill would strengthen penalties against corporations that violate workers’ rights, provide for mediation and arbitration of first contracts, eliminate right to work, prohibit captive audience meetings, and support workers’ right to strike for basic workplace improvements. Thanks to the hard work of our brothers and sisters, who spent hours Tuesday lobbying their representatives on Capitol Hill, the bill was passed 224 to 194. Director Smith is extremely proud of our Region 8 CAP committees who helped make this possible.
