Director Curry Speaks in WV
On Wednesday, March 2, 2016 Region 8 Director Ray Curry addressed the UAW Retired Workers Chapter Local 1590 in Martinsburg, WV. These are retirees from the General Motors facility. A large crowd of 150 retirees met at the Holiday Inn for breakfast followed by a meeting that was chaired by President Ed Lewis.
Director Curry gave a Regional update as well as talking on the importance of being politically active in the community. At the conclusion of the program Director Curry was presented a framed photo of the Flint Sit-Downers Memorial signed by each of the the sit downers or a family member. This was presented by President Lewis and Financial Secretary Ed Lambert whom shared the history of Local 1590 during the organizing efforts in 1968.
Both Ed Lewis and Ed Lambert served the membership during their years in the plant as President and Shop Chairperson numerous terms.
The retirees also heard from representatives from the VEBA Trust, BlueCross and BlueShield, Express Scripts and AudioNet who manages these benefits for the retired workers.
This retiree chapter meets quarterly in Martinsburg, WV.
