UAW President Dennis Williams’ Statement on Workers’ Memorial Day
“Today is Workers' Memorial Day, a day for working people and union brothers and sisters to pay tribute to those who have been hurt or killed on the job. Every worker death is a tragedy. Each brother or sister killed or injured on the job represents a family shattered, dreams extinguished, and potential loss. The sad fact is, nearly 4,600 Americans die every year from job-related injuries. An additional 50,000 succumb to work-related illnesses. Another 4 million will be injured on the job.
Sadly, in 2014, that was the fate of seven UAW members. Today as we remember others who lost their lives due to injuries suffered on the job, we also honor those brothers and sisters and the memories that are so close to home. Let this next year be the year, that all brothers and sisters return home safely each and every day to their families.”
