Medicare Turns 50!

Under hot and steamy skies in our Nation’s Capital, UAW Region 8 attended the “Medicare Turns 50 National Day of Action” on Thursday, July 30, 2015.   Fifty years ago, President Johnson signed the Social Security Amendments which established Medicare and Medicaid, promising they would “improve a wide range of health and medical services for Americans of all ages.”

There were 50 National Day of Action rallies across the country and UAW Region 8 was honored to represent the UAW at the one held in Washington, D.C.   The rally was held at the Upper Senate Park which provided a beautiful setting in the shadows of our U.S. Capitol.pic

Region 8 Director Ray Curry extended his gratitude to the many active and retired members who bused, carpooled and rode the train into Union Station.  A thank you goes out to Assistant Director Ron Hendrix and the UAW Baltimore Sub-Regional Office staff; Bruce Pontia, Jim Rogers and Darren Petty, who assisted in the preparation and were in attendance at the rally.
