UAW Region 8 Bids Farewell To Director Ray Curry

On Wednesday June 13, 2018, UAW Region 8 Director Ray Curry was elected International UAW Secretary- Treasurer. Director Curry has served as regional director since 2014.

Ray Curry is a member of UAW Local 5285 in Mount Holly, North Carolina, where he was hired at Freightliner Trucks in 1992. Working a variety of jobs at the plant, Curry became involved with his local union. During his years at Local 5285, he served as UAW Constitutional Convention delegate, chairman of the trustees, financial secretary-treasurer and alternate committeeperson. He also served as chairman of the UAW North Carolina State Political Action Committee, executive board vice president of the North Carolina AFL-CIO and was a UAW member organizer on the 2003 and 2004 Freightliner organizing drives in Cleveland, Gastonia and High Point, N.C.

In 2004 President Ron Gettelfinger appointed Ray Curry to the international staff, where he served  as a servicing representative has with aerospace, automotive (Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors facilities), heavy truck, and numerous Independent Parts Supplier locations within Alabama and Tennessee. He was responsible for collective bargaining, arbitration, organizing, political action, and other bargaining unit issues.

In 2010 Curry was appointed Assistant Director of Region 8 by Director Gary Casteel and served in that capacity until being elected Region 8 Director in 2014 when Director Casteel was elected International Union Secretary Treasurer.
