UAW Region 8 Takes Home Five Prizes at the 2024 LUCA Awards

The 2024 Local Union Communication Association (LUCA) Conference was held April 28-May 3 at the Walter and May Reuther Family Education Center at Black Lake. Region 8 was well represented at the conference with about 20 representatives from Region 8 locals participating.

One of the annual events at the LUCA Conference is the annual Excellence in Communication Awards for local and regional communication. This year UAW Region 8 took home five awards, including:

3^rd Place Best Local Union or Regional News Story
3^rd Place Best Video
2^nd Place Best Use of Social Media
1^st Place Best Essay of Opinion Piece
1^st Place Best Website

Region 8 has a website, Facebook page, Instagram, twitter, TikTok and YouTube channel. The comprehensive approach to communication allows the region to reduce the distance between locals across the seventeen states included in the region. Local 2195 member John Davis maintains the communication vehicles for the region with the assistance of UAW Region 8 Director Tim Smith and Assistant Director George Palmer. In addition, John Davis serves on the LUCA Advisory Council for Region 8 and has served as the chair for the past 17 years.
