What is a Standup Strike?

Press Release UAW Region 8
Information Regarding Automotive Strike

Our members at Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis began Phase I of the Stand Up Strike Strategy at Midnight on September 14, 2023. Our Bargaining Teams at Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis have been working hard to negotiate a new national agreement since July. These companies have had ample time to make serious contract proposals and have failed to do so.

In 2009, the collapse of the credit markets resulted in the automotive crisis in this country. Our active and retired members made significant sacrifices, giving up C.O.L.A., pension increases, wage increases, tiers were created, just to mention a few, all to help these companies stay solvent and get back on their feet.

In the fourteen years that have followed, the sacrifices, hard work, and dedication of our members gained each of the Big Three record profits. It is long past time that our members were made whole for their sacrifices and rewarded for the hard work that have led to these record profits.

In Region 8, we stand in solidarity with our membership, our Vice Presidents and top negotiating committees, and the International Staff supporting these efforts. As more information concerning these strikes and bargaining becomes available, we will pass it along.
