VETERANS COMMITTEE
What the Veterans committee and its members did during
2003.
1. The Annual Spring cookout at the Veterans Hospital
in Hampton VA.
2. Memorial Day weekend "Run for the Wall" a group from NAP
went to Washington D.C. to participate in Rolling Thunder's salute to
POW/MIA's
3. Participated in "Christmas in July" at the Portsmouth Naval
Hospital's Children ward, sponsored by Rolling Thunder Inc Chapter 2 Virginia
4. Participated in the "Blue Knights" Annual toy run for the
Children's Hospital of the Kings Daughters.
5. Participated in the "Hampton Roads Freedom Run" sponsored
by Rolling Thunder Inc Chapter 2 Virginia.
6. Participated in annual Ice Cream Social at the Spinal Cord ward of
the Hampton VA hospital
7. UAW Local 919 annual Christmas Party for the "Long Term Care and
Rehabilitation wing of the Veterans Hospital in Hampton VA.
8. Participated in "Operation Bright Light" a toy run to the
Children's ward of the Portsmouth Naval Hospital.
9. Participated in the Christmas Eve candle light ceremony at the Viet
Nam Memorial in Newport News VA.
What the Veterans committee and its members have planned
for 2004.
1. Gave $400.00 to the Red Cross to help make "Comfort
Kits" for the 150 Service members from the Portsmouth Naval Hospital
being deployed to set up a field hospital in Kuwait.
2. Working with the USO to sell tickets for a 2004 Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
3. Setting up the annual "Run for the Wall" trip to Washington
D.C. Memorial Day weekend.
4. Members of Local 919 Veterans Committee are also taking part in "Operation
Carry the Flame" which starts in California and ends in Washington
D.C. on May 28, 2004. Our group will meet with them when they cross into
Virginia, then ride with them to Washington.
5. Participate in the dedication of the WWII memorial on 31 May 2004 in
Washington D.C.
6. The annual cookout at the VA hospital in Hampton VA.
7. Participate in "Christmas in July" toy run to the Portsmouth
Naval Hospital on 25 July 2004.
8. Participate in the "Hampton Roads Freedom Run"
9. Participate in "Operation Bright Light"
10. Support other veterans groups in their events.
11. Support the "Blue Knights" policemen's motorcycle clubs,
in their charity events
12. Support the "Red Knight" Firefighters motorcycle clubs,
in their charity events
13. The annual UAW Christmas Party at the VA hospital in Hampton VA.
14. And help all the standing committees of UAW local 919 as needed.
