UAW Local 3520 Opens New Local Union Hall/Facility
UAW Local 3520 at the Freightliner Truck Plant
in Cleveland North Carolina opened their new local union hall/facility
to the membership with an open house and membership appreciation
day on July 12th. The new local is located seven miles from the
truck manufacturing plant on highway 70 near the town of Statesville
North Carolina. Fun was had for all that came out to participate
with bouncy houses and coloring contest for the kids to guitar hero,
karaoke, and temporary tattoos for everyone. Grilled hamburgers,
hot dogs and chicken were enjoyed by everyone with several door
prizes donated by different committees.
Much thanks goes out to the Community Services Committee and the
Veterans Committee for stepping up to help put this together and
especially Sally Menius and Sandy Scott of the CSC for all the time
and energy they put into making this such a great success.
We are very proud of our new facility. We as a membership have been
searching for our own local hall for about two and a half years.
With the high cost of construction and land in our area we knew
we would have to look for something different. That’s when
this facility came available; it is the former Wayside Elementary
School. We have four buildings with one being a free standing gymnasium
complete with basketball court and stage for larger meetings.
The main building is where the local offices are located and a 125
seat seminar room and two rooms dedicated to education training
for our members. The cafeteria, which stands by itself as well,
came complete with all the equipment; stove, large commercial refrigerator
and large freezer, ovens and warming units. The last building is
six classrooms which will be utilized by the standing committee’s
to have their own space to have meetings and use as they need for
their various activities. We also have our own baseball field in
the lower corner of our 10+ acres of land.
We could not be more proud and happy with our facility and we look
forward to the possibility
of holding some Regional events here in the future.
In Solidarity,
Kevin D Barnett
